HISTORY

As an old railroad town founded in 1902, located halfway between Pauls Valley and Chickasha, the city limits of Lindsay were first drawn from a grid of cornstalks and sunflower stacks donated by founding farmers. Shortly after development, Lindsay began to pop with local businesses and surges in industries like oil and agriculture. The town introduced its first crop of broomcorn in 1906, and was soon dubbed “the Broomcorn Capital of the World”. Due to the rapid growth of Lindsay, in 1947, the governor of Oklahoma signed a proclamation promoting the town to city stature. Although the broomcorn boom died many years past, the city still carries on a sweeping success, as it continues to brush travelers off their feet with its charming resonance of wild western nostalgia and new age sweet dixie.
