Where is Chickasaw Country?

What is the geography of Chickasaw Country?

The region has a great range of topography from flat plains to the rolling hills of the Arbuckle mountain region and more than 120,000 miles of shoreline along the area lakes in Chickasaw Country.

When is the best time to visit?

It depends on what activities you are looking to enjoy! Summers can be quite hot, which could be taxing for hiking, but lends itself to a great time at one of our many lakes. Winter weather at times can be unpredictable, but is also a great time to see the holiday lights in the region.

In addition, many cultural, gaming and shopping activities are perfect for year-round visits!

What is the best way to get around Chickasaw Country?

Because the region is spread out and quite rural in places, a vehicle is the most effective way to travel around Chickasaw Country. The Heartland Flyer train also runs from Oklahoma City to Ft. Worth, with stops in Chickasaw Country.

Are there pet friendly destinations?

There are many pet friendly destinations within Chickasaw Country. Each location will differ on their pet policy so check the company's website for restrictions.

The Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center in Davis, Oklahoma, has a lovely pet park for your four-legged friends.

Where can I learn more about the history of the Chickasaw Nation?

Chickasaw Country has a number of attractions to educate the public on the history and culture of the Chickasaw Nation.

The Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur has a beautiful facility dedicated to sharing and celebrating Chickasaw history and culture through demonstrations and community outreach activities.

The Chickasaw Visitor Center in Sulphur is an information hub and gateway to the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, the only national recreation area established at the request of a First American tribe, the Chickasaws.

The historic Chickasaw National Capitol Building in Tishomingo serves as a museum standing for the tribal identity and independence the Chickasaw people fought to protect.

The Chickasaw Council House Museum in Tishomingo dates back to the removal from the Homeland to the Oklahoma settlement and statehood and showcases why the Chickasaw Nation is known as "Unconquered and Unconquerable."

Is everyone in Chickasaw Country a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation?

No, but there are 77,000 members worldwide, many of whom live in Chickasaw Country.

The Holisso Research Center, located on the Chickasaw Cultural Center campus in Sulphur, offers many resources for helping the public find information about possible First American ancestors, specifically within the Five Tribes.
