Timothy Tate Nevaquaya, Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center, Davis
Join us at the Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center in Davis, Oklahoma for our Featured Artist Reception showcasing Timothy Tate Nevaquaya.
Timothy Tate Nevaquaya is an award-winning Comanche artist who now lives in Tulsa. He specializes in paintings and making hand-crafted Native American courting flutes. Courting flutes are a meaningful musical tradition with Native American cultures, once part of the courting ritual. For Nevaquaya, sharing his culture is deeply personal, having trained with his father for years in the artistic traditions of the Southern Plains Indian and Native American courting flute. Nevaquaya's father, Doc Tate Nevaquaya, was a nationally renowed flutist and artist whose works were often featured in national and state observances.
Nevaquaya's contemporary paintings include works using vivid color to depict Comanche warriors, traditional dances, sympbols of the spirit world and more. His art has been displayed in museums across the southwest United States, and he has performed at the American Indian Dance Theatre, Smithsonian Institution, The Gilcrease Museum of Western Art and more.
