Veterans Day Celebrations in Chickasaw Country

Veterans Day allows us to pay our respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in preserving our freedom. All over south-central Oklahoma, events and celebrations are held during the week of and on Veterans Day. If you’re looking for a way to honor some of our heroes, considering joining these events with us.

In honor of Veterans Day, a Veterans Celebration is taking place at the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur on Nov. 8. This celebration will include a stomp dance in the amphitheater in addition to other activities on property. While visiting, explore the Patriot Nations exhibit at Holisso: The Center for Study of Chickasaw History and Culture. Veterans and active military personnel will receive free admission to the Chikasha Poya Exhibit Center as well as receive a discount at the Aaimpa’ Café and Aachompa’ Gift Shops.

What better way to honor America’s heroes than spending time in the great outdoors? During the Veterans Day Blue River Trout Derby in Tishomingo, over one mile of trout-filled stream will be open to catch the largest trout, heaviest stinger, and biggest stringer of the day. Participants are invited to enjoy the festivities on the water throughout the event, and they can join in for a small fee. Cash prizes and trophies will be given out for the day’s biggest catches. Come on out and compete with anglers from across the country while taking in the breathtaking scenery.

What’s more patriotic than a parade? On Nov. 9, trumpets and drums will sound as they make their way down Main Street in Blanchard during the Veterans Day Parade! Join the patriotic festivities honoring active and former military service personnel in this annual event. The parade will have feature a marching band, floats, cheer squad, and members of local armed forces.

Is there a veteran who’s made an impact in your life? We’d love to hear their story. Here at Chickasaw Country, we wish all veterans and active military members a safe and happy Veterans Day. Thank you for your service to our country.
