Satisfy Your Inner Art Lover

Here in Chickasaw Country, we are known for our festivals, great barbecue and shopping, but did you know that we’re also known for great artwork? Every four months, the artwork on display at the Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center, Chickasaw Visitor Center and Exhibit C rotates and features different Native American artists’ work.

The first artist on display, Jim Trosper, is at the Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center in Davis. Jim is a Chickasaw native and is known for his photography skills of live performances and events. There will be an artist reception for him on Saturday, Nov.14, from 1-3 p.m.*, at the Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center. (Is the public allowed to attend? If so, go ahead and add that info here.)

The next artist on display, Timothy Tate Nevaquaya is at the Chickasaw Visitor Center in Sulphur. Timothy grew up in an artistic family and gained a love of flutes from his father, Doc. So naturally, flute making and playing are Timothy’s specialties. See them for yourself at his artist reception on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 4-6 p.m*. at the Chickasaw Visitor Center.

The final artist, Brenda Kingery, is on display at Exhibit C in Oklahoma City. Brenda is a Chickasaw artist that spent years in Okinawa, Japan, gaining influence from folk art, which are depicted in her mixed media pieces. Her artist reception is on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 2- 5 p.m., at Exhibit C. (Invite the public?)

So much great artwork to see, so little time! Don’t forget to check out their masterpieces at their receptions this Saturday or the next. The artwork will be available to view from now until Feb. 29, 2016, so make a point to see them anytime you’re in the area.
