Saturday I had the opportunity to judge the Stratford Peach Festival Cook-Off. Judging the peach cook-off is something I have dreamed about for a few years. I just wanted to get my hands on some of the mouthwatering peach dishes. Let me just tell you, I needed some fat pants after judging this contest, and I have zero regrets!
The cook-off had three different categories: youth, teen and adult. Within each category was a first, second, and third place winner. It gets better: the winners were awarded a cash prize. Not to mention the lucky winners have bragging rights for an entire year!
When I walked up to the judging booth, I was giddy with excitement knowing I was about to eat some delicious peach dishes. Each of the contestants prepared a dessert item, and where the Stratford peaches were the stars of the show.
There were two dishes that really stood out to me. One was the “Peachylicious Perfect Pie” that was made by a 10-year-old. I am pretty sure she would put me to shame in the kitchen, and I consider myself to be a good cook (so that’s saying something)! This pie was perfect, the crust was flaky, and the peach filling was dynamite!
The other dish that stole my heart was the “Vanilla Peach Coffee Cake.” I am going to have dreams about this coffee cake for months. Oh how I wish I could have it for breakfast everyday! I am telling you, it was flawless. It had everything you find in a traditional coffee cake times a million on the flavor scale.
If you were able to score some Stratford peaches of your own, you might be wondering what the heck you are going to do with them. I have stockpiled some of the best peach recipes around and have a Pinterst board filled with new ideas for you to try.
Who knows, maybe next year you can be the lucky winner of the Peach Festival Cook-Off. If you have a favorite peach recipe, share with me—I would love to hear from you.
