Labor Day in Chickasaw Country

Labor Day is near! How can this be? To me, it feels like it should still be May, but the summer flew by and now it’s time to celebrate the end of summer. So, let’s flip the calendar, put away our white clothes (I never follow that rule) and say goodbye to summertime.

Below are a few of my favorite places I think you should visit while you’re in Chickasaw Country for the holiday weekend.

Outdoor Fun

If you want to soak up the summer sun while it’s still around, I have the perfect trip planned for you. Start by going for a hike and exploring Oklahoma’s largest waterfall, visit Turner Falls Park in Davis, Oklahoma. It’s in the perfect location, right between Oklahoma City and Texas at Exit 51 on I-35. In the Arbuckle Mountains you will find even more adventures. You can zipline through the trees at the Air Donkey Zipline Adventures in Davis or see the scenic Turner Falls waterfall from above at the 777 Zip. If you’re hungry for a snack, visit the historic Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies for a delicious, homemade treat. Afterwards, drive East on Highway 7 to Sulphur, Oklahoma, for more outdoor fun at the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. You will find beautiful lakes, waterfalls, picnic areas, and you might even see a few bison.

Indoor Fun

Do you want to escape the heat? I can help with that, too! Chickasaw Country is home to many family-friendly museums including the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan. Bring your little buckaroo for a fun day learning about the Old West. The Toy and Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley is another great museum that is perfect for kids who love superheroes. If your kids are feeling a little rambunctious, visit the Lazer Zone Family Fun Center in Ada.
