Hi friends! Kalli here.
A few weeks ago, I sat down with a new notebook and a pen and wrote my goals for 2019. This is always an exciting time of year for me! It’s a fresh start. Who cares if I didn’t accomplish everything I set out to in 2018, I can continue working towards those goals this year.
What do you want to accomplish in the new year? One goal I am working towards is becoming healthier. Trust me, I am not the best at living a healthy lifestyle. I love eating fast food and a good Netflix binge. But, I’ve set a few realistic goals to help me become a better version of myself, like getting 30 minutes of exercise five days a week and cooking more meals at home.
So, who’s with me? Fortunately, it’s easier now than it’s ever been to stay on track with a healthy lifestyle. I’ve outlined a few of my favorite places in Chickasaw Country to help us stay fit in 2019!
Do you want to eat more fresh foods? I can help. Scout Fresh Foods and Café in downtown Ardmore is the perfect place for a delicious salad. You can choose one of the restaurants’ salads or you can make your own. I decided to make my own salad and absolutely loved it.
If you’re looking for another healthy food option, stop by Veggies in Ardmore for vegetarian and vegan food. Their menu changes weekly, but you can expect anything from pizza to tamales and anything in between. I went with another salad here too, and it was topped with roasted pumpkin seeds. Talk about delicious!
When the weather is nice, Chickasaw Country is a wonderful place to get outside and explore. It is easy to get 30 minutes of exercise when the views are as beautiful as places in south-central Oklahoma. One area to walk (or run) is the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur. Tons of hiking trails are perfect for a leisurely walk or an intense hike, if you want to take it up a notch. One of my favorites is Bromide Hill. Another beautiful place to exercise is Turner Falls Park near Davis. For more hiking spots, check out my guide to hiking trails blog in south-central Oklahoma. If hiking isn’t your favorite thing, take your bike out for spin - there are so many bike trails to explore!
Okay, I think you’re ready to accomplish your fitness goals. Just remember, accomplishing your goal starts with the first step.
