Travel planning season is upon us and spring is around the corner. To help plan your perfect trip to south-central Oklahoma, we’ve combed through Chickasaw Country’s 7,648 square miles to deliver 21, exciting places to add to your 2021 travel bucket list. Whether you’re a longtime local or first-time visitor, there’s something for everyone; do you think you can you visit them all?

Chief Drive-In Theatre – Chickasha

Take the family or your SO to catch a movie at one of Oklahoma’s oldest and last standing drive-ins, Chief Drive-In Theatre. Open year round, guests can play a round of mini golf or stock up on food at the concession stand before the movie starts!

Day trip to Duncan

Travel back in time with a day trip to Duncan and visit their amazing museums such as the Rock Island 905 Depot, Stephens County Historical Museum or the state-of-the-art Chisholm Trail Heritage Center. History may be abundant, but they’ve got plenty of things for the modern-day visitor as well, including delicious restaurants, breweries, coffee shops and shopping. Giuseppe’s – Marlow

Located in the historic 1911 State National Bank Building, Giuseppe’s has been serving delicious Italian dishes for more than 20 years. Locals love the Fresco Bruschetta and Seafood Lasagna; both pair nicely with a glass of wine from the restaurant’s two-story bank-vault-turned-wine-cellar.

Otey Co. and the Barn on Main - Alex

What started as a small, local shop in Alex grew to be so much more as Otey Co. transformed from a boutique to a 5,000 square foot multi-use event center perfect for birthdays, weddings, reunions and more. The ingenious minds behind Otey Co. even added a salon! We recommend planning a visit to one of their famous seasonal events, like Christmas in the Barn.

Toy and Action Figure Museum – Pauls Valley

Recognized as one of Time Magazine’s ‘Top 50 Most Authentic American Experiences’ in 2009, the Toy and Action Figure Museum has been showcasing thousands of your favorite superheroes and villains since it opened its doors in 2005.

Petal Pusher Farms - Purcell

Located 30 miles south of Oklahoma City, Petal Pusher Farms gives visitors the opportunity to cut their own fresh flowers and arrange them into beautiful, hand-tied bouquets. U-Pick events are held during the summer and are great for a fun day enjoying the fresh country air! While visiting, be sure to explore Purcell’s newly revitalized downtown – small town charm at its finest!

Cadillac Ranch Restaurant and Saloon – Lindsay

Housed in a historic two-story building, visitors to Cadillac Ranch Restaurant and Saloon are in for a treat! The renovated building has a restaurant on the first floor with an upstairs saloon, making it the perfect spot to spend an evening. Visitors rave about the home-cooked food and friendly atmosphere – it’s the best place in the area to play a round of darts and shoot the breeze.

The Indie Cinema - Tishomingo 

Watch a Movie in the Heart of Tishomingo! Located in the heart of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, The Indie Cinema, reopened completely remodeled in July 2015. The Indie Cinema is a single screen venue that provides a high quality, state of the art environment for showing diversified films and special features. 

DeAngel Farms & Winery – Blanchard

It all started with a love for fine wine. After years of taste testing, DeAngel Farms & Winery is Blanchard’s first-ever winery. Their wines are made of home-grown fruits and grapes from around the state. They also grow other produce and make their own jams, jellies, breads, soaps and more!

Waddell Vineyards – Ada

With breathtaking views and more than 4,000 vines surrounding the property, Waddell Vineyards, in Ada, is perfect for a day spent wine-tasting. The six-acre property has a chapel, tasting room and rustic event barn on the grounds perfect for weddings and other special events.

The Merchant – Duncan

The Merchant is a restaurant located in the heart of Duncan, Oklahoma. Right next to the Palace Theatre, they have their own big screen where they feature classics like “I Love Lucy” while you enjoy your meal. 

Rattlesnake Hunt – Waurika

It’s one of Chickasaw Country’s most unique events and an absolute must! Every April, around 50,000 people attend the Rattlesnake Hunt and Festival in Waurika. Watch as snake handlers perform daring shows with live rattlesnakes or take a photo with a live Diamondback rattlesnake at the photobooth. The event also features carnival rides, shopping and delicious food. Don’t forget to try the fried rattlesnake bites!


Kochendorfer Brewing Co. – Duncan 

At Kochendorfer in Duncan, Oklahoma, the process is complex, but the approach is simple. With over 30 years of experience, they’ve found a few things to be true. Beer is better shared, never trust a one-armed Cajun, and if you don't like beer, you just haven't tried the right one. They’ve traveled the globe, brewing from Illinois and Kentucky to England and Germany.

Nestled in downtown Tishomingo, The Pennington Inn is a quaint place to stay within walking distance to all the Tishomingo favorites.

Mud Creek BBQ and Chili Company - Ringling

People have been traveling to Ringling for years to dig into award winning barbeque from Mud Creek BBQ and Chili Company. Their mouthwatering meats, sides and desserts have made them a foodie destination in south-central Oklahoma - the buttermilk pie alone is worth the drive!

McSwain Theatre - Ada

Watch a show and celebrate a “Century of Entertainment” at the McSwain Theatre in Ada. For 100 years the McSwain Theatre has been providing entertainment of all kinds for all ages. Today, the McSwain attracts some of the most unique live music acts in the region and hosts weekly movie nights on the big screen.

Turner Falls – Davis

A visit to Oklahoma’s oldest park is a no-brainer! Turner Falls is nestled within the Arbuckle Mountains and has plenty to explore including, caves, a castle and a 77-foot waterfall that creates the perfect swimming spot!

Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies – Davis

A drive through south-central Oklahoma isn’t complete without a fried pie from Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies. Travelers can choose between fruity flavors, rich creamy pies or something a little heartier such as a pizza or Tex-Mex pie. There’s something for everyone to enjoy!

Ole Red/ The Doghouse – Tishomingo

Great food and great times are always on the menu at Ole Red and The Doghouse in Tishomingo. Blake Shelton’s restaurant and concert venue are a local hot spot, often welcoming new and up and coming acts to the area. Come for the music, but stay for the lively atmosphere and menu loaded with country-style classics.

Lake Texoma State Park – Kingston

Whether you are a fishing enthusiast or just enjoy soaking up the sun, Lake Texoma State Park in Kingston is the ultimate summertime destination. There are plenty of activities such as camping, hiking, kayaking, watercraft rentals and more at Oklahoma’s second largest lake.

Tucker Tower at Lake Murray - Ardmore

Lake Murray State Park provides a spectacular opportunity to take in the scenery! Make the short hike to the iconic Tucker Tower from the Lake Murray Nature Center. This outdoor adventure will allow you to overlook the lake from every angle and view the stunning, aquamarine waters you have to see for yourself.
