Exhibit C Gallery showcases connection between First American tribes and buffalo
“Home on the Range” hosts work of 20 First American artists
Exhibit C Native Gallery & Gifts is bringing a visual narration of the relationship between American Indian tribes and buffalo to Oklahoma City. “Home on the Range” debuts at Oklahoma City’s premier First American art gallery March 1, and will feature the work of 20 American Indian artists.
Similar to last year’s “Blazing a Trail” exhibit, visitors have the chance to immerse themselves in the artwork as it’s produced. Each artist will create their own rendition of what the buffalo means to their American Indian tribe, including cultural significance and representation, using various mediums for his or her pieces. All artwork created and completed will be available for purchase during and after the show.
“Home on the Range” will feature original paintings, photography, mixed-media works, prints, sculptures and more. The artists participating in the show include George Alexander (Muscogee), Nocona Burgess (Comanche), Dylan Calvin (Choctaw), Ishkoten Dougi (Navajo/Jicarilla Apache), Billy Hensley (Chickasaw), Josh Johnico (Choctaw), George Levi (Cheyenne), Bobby Martin (Creek), Dustin Mater (Chickasaw), Tim Nevaquaya (Comanche/Chickasaw/Choctaw), Chris Pappan (Kanza/Osage/Lakota), Addie Roanhorse (Osage), Stuart Sampson (Potawatomi), Hoka Skenandore (Oneida/Ogala Lakota/Luiseno/Chicano), Virginia Stroud (Creek/Cherokee/Kiowa), Antoinette Thompson (Navajo), Jim Trosper (Chickasaw), Micah Wesley (Mvskoke/Kiowa), Jennifer White (Arikara) and Rhonda Williams (Otoe Missouria).
