Hi friends! Kalli here. A goal of mine for 2017 was to cook more meals at home. I haven’t exactly stuck to my plan, but after going to Kitchen 117 I think I can accomplish my goal. After seeing all of the goodies, gifts and gadgets at Kitchen 117, I have the desire to cook and bake more…it doesn’t hurt that it’s cooler outside too!
After traveling to Kitchen 117 a few weeks ago, I feel in love with this store located on historic Muskogee Street in downtown Sulphur. It is charming with bright blue planters, a black and white awning, and two wreaths on the door.
Hali, a sweet and energetic lady, standing behind the counter, greeted me. Talk about ambition, Hali is a college student who decided to take a chance and open a kitchen store in her hometown of Sulphur. She grew up baking with her grandmothers and fell in love with baking and cooking. Because of that, she decided to open Kitchen 117 as a junior in college!
The store is a family affair, as you’ll see on your next visit, behind the counter are pictures of Hali’s grandparents. Her grandmothers, and her grandpa helped build the furniture in the store. In the front window is Sulphur’s first post card featuring the Chickasaw National Recreation Area…talk about nostalgic! Hali is passionate about her hometown and its growing community.
Hali has crockpot cooking classes every month in her store, and also hosts a farmers market on Saturday mornings! It’s the perfect shopping stop if you are spending the night at the Artesian Hotel!
