Guide to the Big Game Tailgate

Fall in Oklahoma means football season. Ever since I was a little kid I’ve known that Saturday’s in September, October and November are reserved for cheering for college football. My grandpa was a high school football coach, and I remember sitting around listening to him tell incredible stories about his favorite team, the Oklahoma Sooners, and their fearless leader, Coach Switzer.

Coach Barry Switzer is a legend in Oklahoma. He’s won three college national championships and a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys. He’s a businessman, an author, an actor, a radio talk-show personality, and most importantly, he’s an Oklahoman.

Get excited because Friday, October 5, is your chance to meet Coach Switzer! He will be at the Big Game TailgateParty in Davis at the Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center! Coach Switzer will be signing autographs and taking photos with fans from 10 a.m. to noon. Make sure to bring a football or a jersey for Coach to sign!

The Big Game Tailgate Party will also be serving hotdogs and drinks. The Davis High School band will be pumping up the crowd during the tailgate with marching band tunes, and there will be plenty of vendors with prizes you can win. This is the ultimate pep assembly before the big game in Dallas on October 6!

I don’t want the fun to stop for you after you meet Coach Switzer and leave the Big Game Tailgate Party. Below are a few roadside attractions while driving to Dallas for the big game.

1. Take exit 51 to eat a homemade pie at Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies and see the largest waterfall in Oklahoma, Turner Falls Park. This detour will only take a few minutes and you will get this view. You can park your car at the overlook by the 777 Zipline or you can drive into the park to explore more.

2. Take exit 31B for this unique and crazy store! The Cloverleaf in Ardmore is the perfect store if you’re looking for a cute outfit for Saturday or you just need to stretch your legs. Pull out your phone and take a few selfies with the decorations outside the store. They make the perfect backdrop!

3. Take exit 15 before you cross the border into Texas to get your last taste of Oklahoma with a classic ham sandwich from Robertson’s Ham Stand in Marietta

We can’t wait to see you at the Big Game Tailgate in Davis on October 5! While you are at the event, use #routecc to be featured on our social media. We can’t wait to see all the pictures of you with Coach Switzer!

See you at the tailgate,

Kalli
