12 Months of Fun in Chickasaw Country

Hi friends! Kalli here.

I’ve blinked and January is almost over! How did this happen? A few weeks ago, I set a goal to travel more in 2018, and I intend on making this happen! I have plans to travel across the country, but sometimes the best places are in our own backyard! Chickasaw Country is one of my favorite places in Oklahoma. There are so many towns, boutiques, restaurants and events that make this area so special! Below I made a list of 12 places for you to make memories, have big laughs and explore this year in south-central Oklahoma!

January

While it’s cold, spend time indoors at Urban Air Adventure Park in Ardmore! This is the perfect place to bring the kiddos to expend all their energy. Trust me, it will help with your sanity, too! And while you’re in Ardmore, don’t forget to eat at Café Alley!

February

Relax in February at the Sole’renity Spa inside the Artesian Hotel! This is a beautiful getaway, perfect for Valentine’s Day or a just because day! (cough, cough … this would be the perfect gift for me!)

March

Woo-hoo! Spring break is finally here! Spend a day (or a week!) hiking at Turner Falls in Davis! For the adventure seekers, take a ride on the 777 Zipline or the Air Donkey Zipline Adventures! And don’t forget to grab a fried pie from Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies! The Chocolate pie is my favorite!

April

Celebrate National Parks Month at the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur! It’s a beautiful place to hike, fish, bike and picnic! And guess what? You might even see a baby bison! There’s nothing cuter than that!

May

It’s FINALLY getting warm in Oklahoma! Take advantage of our beautiful weather and spend the day at the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur! Walk around the Traditional Village or see a movie indoors.

June

Grab your flip flops and swim suit and spend the day at the Lake Murray Water Sports in Ardmore! If you want to spend the weekend, the Lake Murray State Lodge is a beautiful place to stay. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

July

Spend the 4th of July cooling off at Lake Texoma in Kingston! Relax on a boat from the Catfish Bay Marina or go for a ride at Water Wings – a Hydro Flight water sport adventure! How fun does that sound?!

August

What’s the perfect summer snack? Watermelon! Get yours at the Rush Springs Watermelon Festival! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

September

Grab your golf clubs and spend the day trying for a hole-in-one on the greens at WinStar Golf! While you are in Thackerville, don’t forget to make a few bets at WinStar World Casino and stay at the WinStar Inn!

October

Trick-or-treat! Spend the day walking around a pumpkin patch in south-central Oklahoma! Baker’s Acres and Brown’s Farm and Garden are wonderful places to find the perfect pumpkin!

November

Before Christmas, spend a weekend shopping local in south-central Oklahoma! Tishomingo, Sulphur, Ada, Ardmore, and Duncan have unique and fun boutiques perfect for finding cute gifts!

December

Christmas is here! Plan a date night for under the lights at the Chickasha Festival of Light! Ride a camel, go on the Ferris wheel or play laser tag!

How did the year go by so fast?! Take time this year to plan your vacation days before they slip away (like they usually seem to do!) Join me in making a plan just like this, for yourself, on National Plan Your Vacation Day on January 30!

As always, while you are out and about traveling, always remember to use #routecc!

Happy travels,
